Punjab Budget 2026-27 Sparks Heated Debate in Assembly
The Punjab government tabled its annual budget on Tuesday, featuring over 750 billion rupees for development, including 184 new projects and 3,560 ongoing schemes.
PML-N leaders rallied behind the budget. Salma Butt praised Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's vision, stating that 184 development projects have been completed in two years and today's budget would prove best for Punjab. Khawaja Imran Nazir defended the government, claiming no new taxes have been imposed and that Punjab's budget would be surplus despite international crises.
PTI leader Nadia Farooq Khur fiercely criticized the government, accusing it of crushing the common citizen and ignoring farmers. She argued that agriculture is Pakistan's economic backbone, yet skyrocketing prices of oil and fertilizer are crippling the sector. She also alleged that billions are being wasted on self-glorification projects named after Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, and Maryam Nawaz, while young people flee the country due to economic hardship.
