Alleged Mastermind Behind Karachi Rangers Camp Attack Arrested, Sindh Officials Say
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, accompanied by Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho, Additional IG CTD Zulfiqar Larak, and SSP CTD Irfan Bahadur, said investigators had uncovered the network of facilitators allegedly involved in the June 27 attack.
According to the Home Minister, four militants carried out the assault on the Sindh Rangers Karachi Transport Company facility. He alleged that three of the attackers were Afghan nationals, while the fourth was from Bajaur and had reportedly lived in Afghanistan for about 20 years.
Lanjar claimed that the attackers' handlers were operating from Afghanistan and directing the operation remotely. He said the alleged objective of the attack was to take people hostage and inflict heavy casualties. He added that Rangers responded successfully, killing three attackers and arresting one suspect alive during the operation.
Providing details of the investigation, SSP CTD Irfan Bahadur said the alleged plot consisted of four stages: planning, infiltration into Pakistan, logistical support by local facilitators, and the provision of weapons and suicide vests.
According to the SSP, one of the alleged suicide bombers was identified as Janan, an Afghan national, while another suspect was from Bajaur. A third attacker, Umar Farooq, was said to be a resident of Kunar Province, Afghanistan, while the fourth suspect, who was captured alive, allegedly belongs to Nangarhar Province.
