Karachi on High Alert as Monsoon Rains Forecast; Emergency Drainage Measures Ordered
With the monsoon season now underway in Pakistan and rainfall already affecting Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Karachi is expected to receive significant showers in the coming days.
Acting on the directives of the Mayor of Karachi, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has completed emergency preparations to tackle potential waterlogging and drainage issues.
Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui instructed all concerned officers and field staff to remain on high alert and ensure uninterrupted drainage operations throughout the expected rainfall.
According to a spokesperson for the Water Corporation, Zonal Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, and other field officials have been directed to personally supervise operations in their respective areas and remain present on-site during the rains.
Sewerage teams and emergency response staff will also be deployed across the city to monitor drainage systems and respond immediately to any incidents of water accumulation, with the aim of reducing disruption to traffic and daily life.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious during heavy rainfall and to avoid unnecessary travel through waterlogged areas.
