Trump Announces More US Strikes on Iran as Tensions Escalate
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said a memorandum of understanding offered to Iran had been a "test," but claimed Tehran had failed to comply with its commitments. He stated that US forces are rapidly targeting Iran's military capabilities and working to limit Iran's operational capacity around the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump also said additional US strikes would be carried out later today, while adding that the possibility of reaching a future agreement with Iran still exists. He further claimed that a naval blockade could prove more effective than an aerial bombing campaign in increasing pressure on Tehran.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said that two Emirati oil tankers were struck by Iranian cruise missiles in the southern Strait of Hormuz. According to the UAE Ministry of Defence, the vessels—identified as Mombasa and Bahiaco—were hit while sailing in Omani waters.
The UAE said the attack killed one Indian crew member and injured eight others, describing the incident as a serious escalation in regional maritime security.
The reported developments come amid rising tensions in the Gulf, raising concerns over global energy supplies and the security of one of the world's most strategic shipping routes.
