Flash Floods Devastate Diamer, Homes and Key Infrastructure Destroyed
According to authorities, the floods destroyed multiple houses, trees, crops, pedestrian bridges, traditional water mills, and irrigation water channels across the affected areas. The disaster also triggered landslides at several points along the Karakoram Highway (KKH), disrupting traffic.
In Chilas, the Karakoram Highway has remained closed since last night after a powerful flash flood struck near the Goner Farm Nursery area. The closure has resulted in long queues of vehicles on both sides of the highway.
Reports indicate that stranded travelers, including women, children, and elderly passengers, are facing severe difficulties while waiting for the road to reopen. Many have urged the government to restore traffic on the Karakoram Highway as soon as possible.
Authorities and relevant departments are continuing damage assessment operations while working to clear roads and restore damaged bridges and infrastructure in the affected areas.
