Pakistan Government Announces Sharp Increase in Petrol and Diesel Prices
According to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Energy's Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs13.18 per litre, raising it from Rs297.53 to Rs310.71 per litre.
The price of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) has also been increased by Rs13.80 per litre, taking it from Rs309.50 to Rs323.30 per litre.
The government said the revised prices were approved in line with changes in international crude oil prices and the latest pricing mechanism.
Earlier, government sources had indicated that the rising cost of crude oil in global markets would likely be passed on to consumers, with an expected increase of around Rs13 per litre for petrol and Rs14 per litre for diesel.
The latest hike comes just a week after the government had reduced the prices of both petrol and diesel by Rs1.97 per litre. On July 4, petrol was lowered to Rs297.53 per litre, while High-Speed Diesel was reduced to Rs309.50 per litre.
The revised prices will remain in effect for one week unless the government announces further changes.
