UK PM Announces Resignation, Breaks Down During Farewell Speech
Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has announced his resignation, becoming emotional during his farewell address in London.
Speaking to the media, Starmer became tearful as he reflected on his leadership and achievements. He said that under his leadership, Britain made significant progress and strengthened relations with its allies.
Starmer stated that when he took office two years ago, he was full of passion and determination. He emphasized that the welfare of the British people remained his top priority throughout his tenure.
He said that over the past two years, his government worked to strengthen both the Labour Party and the national economy. According to Starmer, despite repeated criticism that his party had weakened, they remained committed to delivering change.
“Change does not happen overnight; it takes time,” he said, adding that he would fully support and cooperate with the next Prime Minister.
Starmer also confirmed that he had informed King Charles III of his decision.
He further announced that he would step down from the leadership of the Labour Party, acknowledging growing questions over whether he was the right person to lead the party into the next general election.
“I will now focus on becoming the best husband and the best father,” Starmer said in his emotional closing remarks.
Notably, Keir Starmer has become the sixth British Prime Minister to resign within the past decade.
