Punjab Police, CCD Admit ‘Mistake’ in Chakwal Shooting That Killed Young Girl
During a press conference on the Chakwal tragedy, Inspector General of Punjab Police Abdul Karim and CCD chief Sohail Zafar Chatha expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured the public that no officer involved in illegal actions or misuse of authority would be protected.
IG Punjab stated that the Chakwal incident was extremely tragic, where a young girl lost her life while her brother and father were injured. He said the pain of the incident cannot be expressed in words and extended condolences to the grieving family.
He emphasized that the case would not be hidden under pressure or excuses. Criminal proceedings have been initiated, and the officer held responsible has been taken into custody for investigation. Authorities assured that the investigation will be conducted with complete transparency.
The IG added that this was not just an unfortunate event but the loss of an innocent life. He also highlighted the sacrifices of police personnel, mentioning that two officers were recently martyred in a terrorist attack in Dera Ghazi Khan while performing their duties.
Meanwhile, Additional IG CCD Sohail Zafar Chatha confirmed that an FIR was immediately registered based on the complaint filed by the girl’s father, and legal action is proceeding according to the family’s application.
The incident has sparked widespread concern over police conduct and accountability, with calls for justice growing stronger across Pakistan.
