Zia Ahmed Awan Calls for Unified Judicial Complex, Proposes Relocation of Central Jail in Karachi
He expressed these views during a press conference at the City Court in Karachi.
Zia Ahmed Awan stated that the primary demand in their petition is the creation of a single judicial complex to improve the city’s judicial infrastructure. He said their petition is currently under hearing in the Sindh High Court.
He further revealed that a committee of the Sindh High Court has decided to remove the existing CPLC parking area and construct a new modern building at the site. According to Awan, the proposed building will include two basements, 12 floors, and 125 courtrooms.
He said this development would significantly improve conditions at the City Court, adding that all courtrooms would be fully air-conditioned, creating a better working environment for judges, lawyers, and litigants.
Awan also mentioned that a letter has been written to the Chief Justice, requesting that all stakeholders be invited for consultation regarding judicial infrastructure and security concerns.
Highlighting security risks at the City Court, he stressed the need for an advanced entry management system at all gates. He proposed that visitors’ national identity card details should be recorded upon entry, while lawyers should be able to enter seamlessly by showing their official bar cards.
He reiterated that relocating the Central Jail outside the city and utilizing its land for court facilities would be a major step toward modernizing Karachi’s judicial system.
