Islamabad Launches First-Ever ‘Safe Muharram’ App as Authorities Unveil High-Tech Security Plan
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday (June 18) chaired a high-level review meeting on security and administrative arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, directing authorities to implement strict measures to maintain law and order across the federal capital.
During the briefing, officials informed the minister that, for the first time in Islamabad’s history, a dedicated “Safe Muharram” application has been developed. The app will allow citizens to report suspicious individuals, suspicious activities, or inadequate security arrangements. Users will also be able to share live locations and images directly with authorities, enhancing real-time response capabilities.
Authorities have completed geo-tagging of all imambargahs, religious gatherings (majalis), and procession routes, while drone-based digital monitoring will be employed to strengthen surveillance throughout Muharram.
A central control room has been established at the Safe City headquarters to monitor security operations and coordinate responses. Officials also confirmed that a four-tier security cordon will be deployed to protect religious gatherings and processions.
Mohsin Naqvi directed strict checking at all entry and exit points of processions and majalis and instructed senior officers to remain present in the field to oversee security arrangements. He also ordered the implementation of a comprehensive traffic management plan to ensure smooth movement during Muharram events.
The interior minister emphasized maintaining close coordination with religious scholars to preserve peace and harmony, while ensuring strict adherence to the code of conduct. He also directed authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against provocative and inflammatory material.
The Chief Commissioner Islamabad and the Inspector General of Islamabad Police provided a detailed briefing on the security plan. Officials informed the meeting that security audits of all majalis and processions had been completed, while Peace and Nigehban Committees had been activated to support law enforcement efforts.
The Islamabad administration is also maintaining continuous contact with religious scholars, organizers of majalis, and procession committees to ensure effective coordination throughout Muharram.
The meeting was attended by senior police and administrative officials, including DIGs, SSPs, the Deputy Commissioner, and all Assistant Commissioners.
