Karachi Bus Owners Announce Indefinite Strike Over Heavy Traffic Fines
According to details, transporters have protested against excessive traffic challans and heavy penalties imposed by authorities. The administration stated that talks with the traffic police remained unsuccessful, prompting bus owners to begin an indefinite strike from June 18.
The strike has affected public transport in several areas of Karachi, including Saddar, Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Shah Faisal, Orangi Town, and Tower, leaving thousands of commuters stranded and facing serious inconvenience.
Due to the suspension of bus services, many employees were unable to reach their offices on time, creating widespread travel difficulties across the city.
Meanwhile, the Karachi Bus Owners Association has decided to suspend public transport services indefinitely. Association President Farooq Ahmed has urged all bus owners to keep their buses off the roads until their demands are addressed.
Speaking on the matter, Farooq Ahmed said the strike would continue until the authorities accept their demands. The administration further claimed that multiple buses have been issued heavy fines, while police are planning a major crackdown starting July 1.
Transporters have condemned the move, calling it unacceptable and stating that such actions amount to the economic destruction of the transport sector.
