Muharram Devotion Meets Inflation Shops Thrive as Pilgrims Flock to Bibi Pak Daman
The sacred precincts of Bibi Pak Daman have become a hub of activity as devotees from across the country gather to pay their respects during the first days of Muharram. The increased footfall of pilgrims has brought a noticeable boom in business for shopkeepers selling religious items, including flags, banners, and other ceremonial goods.
Basharat Ali, who has been running his shop at the shrine for the past 14 to 15 years, shared his observations with satisfaction.
He noted that the influx of pilgrims this year is even greater than before, with Muharram bringing its usual rush of buyers.
However, he also acknowledged the harsh reality of rising prices, saying that inflation has cast its shadow over every transaction.
He explained that despite the price hikes, the faithful continue to purchase religious items, placing them around their necks or adorning their homes as a mark of devotion.
He expressed gratitude that the business remains steady, with the Shia community and devoted buyers keeping the market alive.
He added that while the burden of inflation is undeniable, the spirit of Muharram has kept the demand for these sacred items intact.
For the devotees, the month of Muharram is a time of mourning and reflection, yet the rising cost of essentials and commemorative items has added a layer of financial strain. Despite these challenges, the unwavering faith of the pilgrims continues to sustain the local economy around the shrine.
As Muharram progresses, traders hope the rush will persist, while pilgrims pray that their acts of devotion, despite the economic hardships, are accepted.
