KPK Decides to Present Three-Month Budget for Next Fiscal Year
During a parliamentary party meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi informed lawmakers that the provincial government would present a budget covering only the first three months of the new fiscal year rather than the entire year.
The chief minister said the federal government has continued delaying decisions instead of addressing the province’s demands. He added that presenting a short-term budget could increase pressure on the federal government in a constitutional and strategic manner.
According to the chief minister, Article 125 allows an elected government, similar to a caretaker setup, to present a three-month budget. He stated that by avoiding a full-year budget, the province could effectively push its demands at the federal level.
To review the legal and constitutional status of the three-month budget, prominent lawyers Gohar Ali Khan and Salman Akram Raja have been summoned to provide final legal opinion on the matter.
The move is expected to intensify discussions over provincial rights, fiscal autonomy, and center-province relations in Pakistan.
