PPP leads in Gilgit-Baltistan assembly polls as unofficial results come in
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has emerged as the single largest party in the Gilgit-Baltistan assembly elections, leading with nine seats as counting of unofficial and provisional results continued on Monday, a day after polling concluded.
Voters turned out in large numbers on Sunday across various polling stations, standing in long queues to cast their ballots. Polling continued without interruption until 5 p.m.According to complete unofficial results from 18 out of 24 assembly constituencies, PPP secured nine seats, independent candidates won five, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) obtained three, and Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) claimed one seat.
PPP won in constituencies GBA-1, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 19. PML-N emerged victorious in GBA-20, 22, and 18. MWM won GBA-8. Independent candidates won in GBA-3, 23, 24, 21, and 6.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reacted to the unofficial results in a statement on X, saying his party was emerging as the largest political force in the region.
There is a rain of arrows in Gilgit-Baltistan," Bilawal said, using an idiom referring to overwhelming support. "PPP is emerging as the single largest party. We will make efforts to form the government. I am deeply grateful to the people for their trust.
