Punjab’s Modern Housing Policies Gain Global Attention at World Urban Forum
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab government, countries showing interest include Canada, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, and Türkiye. In addition, a World Bank mission has also expressed special interest in the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” program and is expected to visit Punjab soon for further discussions.
Under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, PHATA is moving forward toward achieving sustainable development goals and addressing global challenges in urban planning and housing.
During World Urban Forum 13 held in Azerbaijan, Punjab’s modern housing strategies received international appreciation. Through the Pakistan Pavilion, Punjab established important connections with global institutions, development partners, and governments.
The “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” initiative was recognized as one of the world’s largest interest-free housing finance programs. International experts described it as a model that developing countries could adopt and replicate.
Punjab was also presented as an important global example in affordable and social housing finance. Successful housing models from Türkiye, Malaysia, Kenya, and Indonesia were studied for possible implementation and improvement.
The province also gathered valuable insights into climate-resilient affordable housing and disaster-resistant construction techniques. International best practices in housing finance, urban planning, and digital governance are expected to be incorporated into Punjab’s future policies.
Officials stated that “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” will be promoted as a global case study following the World Urban Forum, while opportunities for climate financing in affordable housing projects will also be explored.
