EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas Arrives in Islamabad for Key Strategic Dialogue with Pakistan.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar welcomed Kallas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ahead of the 8th Pakistan-EU Strategic Dialogue, the highest-level platform for structured engagement between the two sides. The dialogue is expected to focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation, regional developments, trade, and multilateral engagement.
During her visit, Kallas is scheduled to meet Pakistan’s senior leadership, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir. A joint press conference with Foreign Minister Dar is also expected.
The Foreign Office described the visit as a reflection of the growing momentum in high-level political exchanges and a shared commitment to deepening the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and the European Union. Islamabad emphasized that its relationship with the EU is built on shared values, strong economic ties, and support for multilateral cooperation.
The EU remains Pakistan’s second-largest trading partner, with the GSP+ trade scheme continuing to play a vital role in boosting Pakistani exports to European markets. While the EU has acknowledged Pakistan’s progress in implementing international commitments under the framework, it has also called for further reforms in areas including human rights, governance, and minority protections.
The visit is expected to reinforce strategic cooperation and pave the way for stronger engagement between Pakistan and the European Union in the years ahead.
