Eid Ends, Austerity Drive Resumes: Markets and Shopping Malls in Islamabad to Close at 8 PM
According to a new notification issued by the District Magistrate Islamabad, markets and shopping malls across the city will now close at 8:00 PM starting from June 1, 2026. The notification will remain effective until further orders.
Several essential sectors have been exempted from the restrictions. Pharmacies, hospitals, medical laboratories, and medical stores will continue operating without limitations. Petrol pumps and CNG stations will also remain open under their regular schedules.
Additionally, dairy shops, gyms, padel courts, sports facilities, IT companies, and call centers are excluded from the new timing regulations.
Restaurants, food outlets, and traditional bakeries (tandoors) will be required to close by 10:00 PM. Grocery stores, vegetable and fruit shops, and bakeries will also follow the 10:00 PM closing schedule.
The notification further states that takeaway and home delivery services will continue without restrictions. Wedding halls and marquees must close by 10:00 PM, while private events and gatherings will also be subject to the same timing limitations.
Officials stated that the revised business hours are part of broader energy conservation measures designed to reduce electricity consumption and promote efficient use of resources.
