Eid-ul-Adha Day 2: Punjab Continues Massive Cleanliness Operation
According to Director General of Suthra Punjab Authority, Babar Sahib Din, more than 110,000 tons of animal waste and sacrificial remains were disposed of across Punjab on the first day of Eid. In Lahore alone, over 17,000 tons of waste were removed by late night.
Punjab’s cleanliness campaign is being carried out under the “Suthra Punjab” initiative, with 184,000 sanitation workers deployed in three shifts across the province. Around 40,000 operational machines and 12,000 additional loader rickshaws and pickup vehicles are participating in the house-to-house waste collection drive.
Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique, Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian, and DG Suthra Punjab Authority Babar Sahib Din remained present in the field alongside workers during Eid operations to monitor the cleanliness campaign.
Authorities stated that all transfer stations were cleared overnight to ensure a zero-waste environment. To control foul smell and maintain hygiene, sanitation teams are also spraying phenyl and rose-water mixed disinfectants in affected areas.
More than 4,500 Eid camps have been set up across Punjab to facilitate citizens. Public response to the cleanliness operation has remained positive, while over 15,000 citizens contacted the helpline 1139 and the civic app for guidance and timely waste collection services.
