Pakistan Denounces Israeli Seizure of Gaza-Bound Aid Flotilla, Demands Immediate Release of Activists
In a statement issued by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad denounced the action in “the strongest possible terms,” alleging that Israeli occupying forces had arbitrarily detained aid workers and subjected some of them to mistreatment.
Pakistani authorities said those detained reportedly include humanitarian activist Saad Edhi.
“Pakistan demands the immediate release of all illegally detained activists,” the statement said, while urging the international community to help ensure the “safety, dignity, and fundamental rights” of those being held.
The Foreign Office added that it remains in close coordination with Pakistani diplomatic missions in the region to facilitate the safe return of any Pakistani nationals affected by the incident.
The Global Sumud Flotilla was reportedly carrying humanitarian assistance when it was intercepted. The incident has drawn criticism from rights advocates and humanitarian groups concerned about the treatment of civilians and aid workers operating in the region.
