IHC Hears £190 Million Case, Orders Adiala Jail Superintendent to Arrange Lawyers Meeting
A written request was submitted to the court stating that Barrister Salman Safdar is suffering from a serious eye condition and required immediate medical examination, seeking exemption from the hearing. Representing the PTI founder, lawyer Salman Akram Raja informed the court that Salman Safdar was unable to attend due to severe eye complications. He requested additional time for filing an appeal against the rejection of appeals in the case.
Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar accepted the request and directed the superintendent of Adiala Jail to ensure proper arrangements for lawyers to meet the PTI founder.
The Chief Justice made it clear that the legal teams representing the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi must appear at the next hearing. He further stated that if Barrister Salman Safdar remains unavailable, another counsel must be appointed to represent the case.
Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar warned that if legal representation is absent again at the next hearing, “the law will take its own course.” Following the warning, the court adjourned the hearing indefinitely.
The £190 million case is a major financial scandal being investigated by National Accountability Bureau involving allegations against the PTI founder and other party leaders. The court has temporarily halted further legal proceedings until the next hearing date while taking a strict stance on the repeated absence of defence counsel.
