U.S. Senate Passes Resolution to End Iran Blockade, Calls for Withdrawal of American Troops
The resolution passed with 50 votes in favor and 47 against, dealing a political setback to the Trump administration’s Iran policy. According to international media reports, four Republican senators broke party ranks to support Democrats. These senators included Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rand Paul, and Bill Cassidy.
Under the proposed resolution, any continuation of military operations against Iran would require formal approval from Congress. The matter will now move toward further Senate debate and a final vote, where Republican leadership may attempt to block the measure.
Democratic Senator John Fetterman was the only Democrat to oppose the resolution. Meanwhile, Senator Bill Cassidy’s support surprised political observers, especially after recently losing political ground within his party following opposition backed by Donald Trump.
The resolution could significantly impact future U.S. military involvement in the Middle East and reshape Washington’s approach toward Iran.
