Severe Heatwave Alert Issued for Sindh as Temperatures Expected to Hit 49°C
According to the advisory, heatwave conditions are expected to intensify in central and upper Sindh from May 7 through May 11. Under the influence of this weather system, daytime temperatures in several districts—including Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, Naushehro Feroze, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Sukkur—may soar between 47°C and 49°C.
Authorities have cautioned that such extreme temperatures could pose serious health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, women, and senior citizens. The Met Office has urged the public to avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak daytime hours and to stay well-hydrated.
Farmers have also been advised to plan their agricultural activities, especially wheat harvesting, in accordance with the prevailing weather conditions. Special care for livestock has also been emphasized to prevent heat-related stress.
Officials are closely monitoring the situation and have called on residents to take precautionary measures to minimize the impact of the ongoing heatwave.
