Deadly Storm and Heavy Rain Claim 19 Lives in Karachi
According to officials from Edhi Foundation and Rescue 1122, multiple fatal incidents occurred due to collapsing structures and falling objects. In Baldia’s Moach Goth area, 11 people were killed when a wall collapsed. In Quaidabad’s Majeed Colony, a husband and wife lost their lives after a wall fell on them.
Additional casualties included a citizen killed by a falling tree in Korangi, and another struck by lightning in Malir. In another incident in Baldia, a house wall collapse resulted in further fatalities and injuries. Rescue officials reported that many victims in Moach Goth had taken shelter inside a dilapidated structure during the rain.
The storm also caused widespread damage across the city, uprooting trees and toppling billboards. In Baldia Town, seven members of a single family were injured when their home’s wall collapsed, and one later succumbed to injuries.
Power infrastructure was severely impacted, with around 645 feeders affected, leaving large parts of the city without electricity late into the night. Rescue operations are ongoing, and authorities fear the death toll may rise.
