PM Shehbaz Directs Enhanced Coordination with Provincial Governments for Monsoon Contingencies
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday held a meeting with Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, during which he was briefed on the country's preparedness to handle any emergency situation amid the ongoing monsoon rains.
The Prime Minister directed the NDMA to further enhance coordination with provincial governments and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) to ensure a swift and effective response to any rain-related emergencies across the country .
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was given a detailed briefing on the measures taken to deal with potential flooding and other hazards during the monsoon season. The NDMA chairman apprised the premier on the progress made in fully activating the early warning system and enhancing collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change to mitigate the impact of heavy rains.
The development comes as Pakistan braces for the annual monsoon season, which has historically caused widespread flooding and damage to infrastructure and agriculture . The government has emphasized a proactive approach to disaster management, with the Prime Minister urging all relevant departments to remain on high alert and ensure timely assistance to affected communities.
