Transporters Refuse to End Strike Demands Must Be Accepted in Writing
President of the All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance, Malik Shehzad Awan, said the strike is peaceful and aimed at securing what the transporters describe as their legitimate demands.
Awan said negotiations with a committee headed by the Federal Minister for Communications, formed on the Prime Minister’s directives, failed to produce a breakthrough.
He made it clear that the strike would continue indefinitely until all demands are approved in writing. He rejected the possibility of ending the strike merely on verbal assurances, saying transporters would announce an end to the protest only after receiving a written agreement.
The transporters’ leader also accused the federal and Sindh governments of failing to seriously address their concerns.
According to Awan, the ongoing strike has already entered its fifth day and is causing losses running into billions of rupees, while the government has yet to accept the transporters’ demands.
He further warned that the strike could continue for six months or even longer if their demands are not accepted.
