Protest erupts over killing of Shia cleric, Allama Nasir Abbas was shot dead by unidentified armed men late on Sunday, early on Monday (December 18) in Lahore.
Allama Nasir Abbas was killed in a drive-by-shooting near the Ferozpur Road in the Muslim town, when he was going to his residence; However driver and Allama’s companion were unharmed in the attack.
Abbas was seriously injured in the attack and was taken to the Shaikh Zayed Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Soon after the incident, police investigators reached the scene and in hospital, collected evidence from the spot and car, respectively. They also recorded statements of eyewitnesses.
The CCPO Lahore said apparently it was an incident of target killing. However, no case was registered till the filing of the report.
A large number of Allama’s followers reached into the hospital and expressed their anger, and they chanted slogans against the government and damaged the premises.
After receiving the body, the protestors marched towards the Governor House. And held a sit-in protest before the Governor has.
Weeks before the killing, provincial chief of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat was killed in a similar attack in Lahore. Police have yet to arrest the killers of Shams-ur-Rehman Moawiya.
