Justice Tasaddug Hussain Jilani took oath as the new chief justice of Pakistan on Thursday (December 12).
Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain swore in Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani after Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry stepped down a day earlier.
He will remain the chief justice of Pakistan for at least six months.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chaudhry and other top government officials including ministers attended the ceremony.
The new CJP was working as the acting chief election commissioner and had recently resigned from the post.
Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry retired on Wednesday (December 11).
