five bombs defused in pakistan's peshawar.
Police and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) defused five home-made bombs in Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar, foiling a major terror bid on Thursday (January), police officials and eye witnesses said.
The bombs were planted near an electricity pylon in Phandu near Jamil Chowk in the city.
According to police, some people spotted the pressure cooker bombs placed near a 132 kv tower on Ring Road. The police along with the BDS officials reached the spot and defused the bombs.
Police said one bomb was planted at the base of the pylon while the rest were placed in fields.
A BDS official said that each bomb weighed around 20 kilogram.
The pressure cookers were reportedly made in Afghanistan. Picture showed "Number 1, Jalalabad" embossed on one pressure cooker.
Meanwhile, a abandoned suspicious bag created panic in the area but police later found no explosive hidden in the bag.
"I received information that a suspicious bag was lying here. I contacted SHO (Station House Officer) and other law enforcement agencies including BDS immediately. They reached here and started immediate action,"said Rehman Afzal, local councilor.
The security forces, later, launched a search operation in the area to arrest the miscreants.
Meanwhile, the Nasir Bagh Police arrested at least 34 suspects, including 11 Afghan nationals, in the search operation in their jurisdiction. Weapons, including three repeater guns, four pistols and a short machine gun, were recovered from the suspects.
